Welcome Letter to Parents and Students

September 8, 2009

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Welcome to 4th/5th Grade and Room 204!  My name is Ms. Reynolds and I will be teaching Writing to my 4th and 5th grade homeroom students.  I will also be teaching Math to the 5th and 6th grade students. I am anxious to get to know each one of you and your children.  4th, 5th and 6th grades are very important grades.  As students transition from one teacher to multiple teachers, they are becoming independent individuals.  It is my job as a teacher, and yours as a parent/guardian, to make sure our students acquire all of the skills necessary to truly succeed.

I would like to share a little about myself with you.  I graduated from Chicago State University with a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education with endorsements in middle school Mathematics, Language Arts and Social Studies.  I also have a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership.  I am a very handy and helpful person.  I love to draw and I also coach the 5th / 6th grade Softball team.   I am a very social person and enjoy spending time with family and friends when I’m not teaching.

Here are a few reminders to make sure that our upcoming school year gets off to a fantastic start.

1.  Students will be given homework daily.  Homework is due upon entering the classroom on the following day.  Homework is a very important part of the learning process.  Homework assignments are an extension of skills covered in class that day.  It is imperative that students turn in completed homework assignments on time.   Students may request help with homework assignments if necessary.

2.  Shoesmith is a uniform school.  Each student must wear his/her uniform Monday-Thursday.  The proper uniform attire consists of a white shirt (with collar), and navy blue slacks with a belt.  On Friday, casual dress is permitted.

3.  Should your child be absent from school, please send a note detailing the reason for the absence.  This note should accompany your child upon his/her return to school.

4.  All students are required to pay a student fee of $50.00.

5.  All students must bring school supplies that will go towards our classroom supply of materials.

I thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.  In closing, I want to welcome each of you and your children to a brand new school year.

Sincerely,

Ms. Reynolds
